In partnership with the Gates Foundation, the Global Center on AI Governance (GCG) led a major initiative supporting grantees from the 2023 Grand Challenges cohort to explore the role of generative AI in addressing development challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The project focused on expanding research output, fostering global collaboration, and exploring the ethical, equitable, and context-specific use of generative AI in LMICs.

GCG brought together a consortium of experts from across the Global Majority, including Digital Futures Lab (India) and the Institute for Technology and Society of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), to guide grantees in developing high-quality academic outputs, policy-relevant insights, and accessible knowledge products.
