Ololade Shyllon is the Director of Privacy and Data Policy for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey (AMET) at Meta, where she is responsible for leading the company's privacy and data protection advocacy strategy across the region. Her duties encompass collaboration with a diverse spectrum of internal and external stakeholders to continuously develop and inform Meta's approach to privacy.
Dr. Shyllon is a human rights lawyer, specialising in the interconnected information rights of freedom of expression, access to information, and privacy. Her substantial professional background includes leading the formulation of regional normative frameworks for the African Union, as well as undertaking research, capacity building, and advocacy concerning these three information rights throughout Africa and the Middle East.
She obtained her doctorate in human rights law from the University of Pretoria and her doctoral thesis is featured as a chapter within her edited book, ‘The Model Law on Access to Information for Africa and Other Regional Instruments: Soft Law and Human Rights in Africa.’ Dr. Shyllon was instrumental in establishing and serves on the editorial board of the African Journal on Privacy and Data Protection. She is also a member of the editorial board of the forthcoming publication, ‘Artificial Intelligence and Data Privacy in the GCC: Legal Frameworks, Regional Challenges, and Emerging Perspectives.’
