Maha Jouini

Maha Jouini is an AI policy consultant, and digital transformation advocate with over a decade of experience working across Africa and MENA region . Her work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, human rights, and inclusive development — with a strong focus on ethical AI governance, youth and gender advocacy, and digital literacy for underserved communities. At the Global Center on AI Governance, she explores the social impact of AI with a focus on gender equity and African-led innovation in Francophone Africa .

Previously, she served as an AI Policy Consultant with the Global Index on Responsible AI, conducting regional assessments on ethical risks in Senegal’s AI policies and engaging stakeholders to promote inclusive adoption. In Mauritania, she led digital literacy programs for uneducated women and girls as a consultant with private sector Group initiative , using mobile technologies to close the education gap in rural communities.

Her advocacy roots run deep, from championing migrant rights and GBV prevention at the Arab Institute for Human Rights in Tunisia to advising the African Union’s Special Youth Envoy on youth-led campaigns against child marriage and FGM. As a Regional Advocacy & Digital communication officer for the AU’s Campaign to End Child Marriage, she shaped key research and policy strategies that informed continental protection frameworks.

Maha began her career as Team Leader and Digital Communications Assistant at Tunivisions, where she helped shape Tunisia’s youth engagement during the country’s democratic transition in the Arabic Spring 2011 .
