Fiona Chawana is Communications Stand-In Support at the GCG.
Prior to joining GCG, she served as Communications Lead for the Global Data Barometer and Outreach and Engagement Officer for the Data for Development Network, where she led regional digital communications strategies across Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Caribbean. Before that, she worked as a Research Assistant at the University of the Witwatersrand, contributing to studies on media freedom and digital safety. Passionate about making complex policy narratives accessible, Fiona works to ensure that AI governance and data governance issues are translated into compelling content for diverse global audiences. She holds a Master's degree in Media Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand and holds certifications in AI Ethics and Human Rights.
