The Global Index on Responsible AI (GIRAI) is a flagship project of the Global Center on AI Governance. GIRAI is dedicated to measuring countries' commitments and progress towards responsible AI through a comprehensive and multidimensional index. This unique initiative involves data collection and analysis from over 140 countries, encompassing contributions from governments and non-state actors. GIRAI collaborates with regional organizations, including think tanks, universities, civil society organizations, and experts in AI and human rights, forming a robust global research network.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Community Manager to coordinate our extensive research network and manage relationships with our regional partners. This individual will focus on capacity building, communications, and dissemination of results and other information regarding the project, ensuring effective collaboration and impactful outcomes. The ideal candidate will be based in Africa, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and have a strong interest in AI and human rights. The Community Manager will be reporting to the Project Director of the GIRAI.
The contract is for a one-year period, and a competitive salary will be offered.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate the research network across 140+ countries, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
Manage relationships with regional hubs, including think tanks, universities, civil society organizations, and AI/human rights experts.
Organise capacity-building initiatives for regional hubs and country researchers.
Create, curate, and disseminate content along with the comms team to engage and inform the research network.
Organize events, webinars, and discussions related to responsible AI.
Monitor and analyze the progress of regional hubs, providing regular updates and reports.
Facilitate the sharing of best practices and knowledge across the network.
Collaborate with internal teams to align community insights with project goals.
Skills:
Proven experience in stakeholder and community management or network coordination, preferably in an international context.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of French or Arabic will be an advantage.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL).
Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Passion for AI and human rights, with a deep understanding of the responsible AI ecosystem.
Experience with capacity building and knowledge dissemination.
Familiarity with project management and analytics tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
5-7 years experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
Previous experience working with global projects in the realm of human rights.
Experience with project management and reporting tools.
BA and Masters degrees in related fields are preferred qualifications.
