Major imbalances exist in the power of people, communities, and governments across the Majority World to set the terms of the debate on AI in general and responsible AI in particular. This leads to increasing inequalities embedded in AI technologies, ecosystems and governance.
At the Global Center on AI Governance (GCG), we’re forging equitable AI futures for everyone, everywhere. Filling major data gaps and equipping governments, policymakers, and researchers with local insights and tools, we are advancing new ways of addressing AI to ensure everyone benefits and no one is harmed. Our work centers local contexts, realities and expertise through knowledge production and exchange.
In parallel to our multidisciplinary research activities, we conduct capacity strengthening in responsible AI, offering executive courses such as the AI, Policy and Ethics in Africa, together with The Ethics Lab at the University of Cape Town. We are also playing an active role in national, regional and global AI policy processes, and provide policy advisory services to AI decision-makers.
The work that we do, and how we do it is underpinned by three core values: impact, excellence and accountability. By defining new standards of AI global governance, we’re generating new insights, levelling debates, and bolstering the foundations for responsible AI world over.
